My Brother's Billionaire Best Friend by Max Monroe

2.0

I downloaded this from Kindle Unlimited expecting a quick, fun contemporary romance based on the synopsis. It was quick - but quite cliched in terms of the plot. Younger sister has been in love with her brother’s best friend who suddenly realizes she is not a kid anymore.

The promised wrinkle of sending him an embarrassing text message lasted for a couple of pages only. After that, it was a tale that I’ve read before. All of which would have been fine but the writing was quite annoying. The characters all speak in what should be "snappy banter" but comes across as false and not particularly funny. It’s kind of like a potty mouth Sex and the City in its deliberate awareness of how smart and funny it is. The first person POV also generally bothered me as the real difference between the hero and heroine was the level of swearing instead of character.

I would recommend that you download a sample of this; if the writing clicks you may enjoy this more than I. The plot is common enough but it’s the writing which is the true hurdle.

In the end an average two stars for me as it was ok - I finished it without losing me temper as some contemporaries make me do.
