Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury

5 stars ⋆。°✩

This book was poignant and beautifully written but also very dark. It deals with some very heavy themes of sexual assault and abuse. Thankfully, the author provides a full list of content warnings at the start of the book. Delicious Monsters deftly explores the intricacies of mother-daughter relationships and the impact of generational trauma. It's a chilling tale filled with body horror and supernatural monsters and human ones alike, but at its core, it is also a hopeful story—filled with love and resilience.

The author masterfully weaves a dual narrative between two young women, separated in time, whose struggles are similar yet distinct. Daisy, I would say, is truly the star of the show. Most of the chapters are in her perspective. She is flawed, emotionally guarded and lashes out at others but you feel so much empathy for her. Her and Brittney's stories ultimately converge toward the end in a very beautiful way.

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait to read more from this author!
