The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri

challenging reflective slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
Reading this book took a physical copy, an ebook copy, an audiobook of a different translation, a second audiobook of recorded lectures on the text, and a second time through the first audiobook. But after seven months, I can finally say that I have read Dante's Divine Comedy once. What did I get from it? Both more than I thought and less than I'd like. I can tell I'm going to have to revisit this many, many times before I can claim to even conversationally grasp it. What a difficult text. But I've read it. Once.
