In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce

1.0

I didn’t finish this one - found it to be far too boring (and the subject matter seems so interesting, so that was a disappointment!) I got halfway through - almost 400 pages out of 800 on my ereader version - and found the Wikipedia entry on Belle so much more fascinating. This moved slow, and I didn’t feel like it delivered on plot drivers or seemed like it was going to deliver on character development. I would have far preferred the story told either entirely from her perspective OR her sister’s, as the switch didn’t serve either of them well. Curious to see so many high ratings on this since it totally missed the mark for me! I was so intrigued to get inside her head or to see how other people viewed her (her sister having suspicions would also have been an interesting perspective) and this did not do that within the first 400 pages.
