Wow! People were telling me to read this and I honestly understand why, it took me less than a day to read because I was so infatuated with the story and the social elements that go into it. It openly has a very morally grey protagonist who though she thought was doing “what she thought was best” but as per usual it is followed with consequences. I loved that this author included so much Chinese history this taught me lots I didn’t know about; additionally, the link between the themes of the book and title is not easily lost because throughout the book you can feel the tension between the protagonist we meet and the pseudo personality of the “author” she becomes (a white woman who stole her friends work and tried to pass it off as her own)  which lead to the eventual realisation that she should make her own stories because if she continues to take from her friend it will only lead to trouble and the intense emotions that she feels. I would read this book 100 times because the lessons and meaning of this book are not lost
