Think of England by KJ Charles

3.0

My reading order probably influenced how I feel about this book. I read the Will Darling adventures first on the recommendation of a friend, followed by Proper English, followed by Think of England. Which makes it the earliest writing by this author that I have read - and I think it shows. I find the dynamic between the two leads kind of squicky, and for the first time with this author, I felt like she was fetishising them a bit because of some clichéd motifs in the dialogue. Overall, I remain not fully sold on this couple.

That said, the moment when
SpoilerDaniel is tied up in the cave and Curtis goes to save him
was quite a turning point. I'd thought I was uninvested, but suddenly I was hissing at the antagonists to back off. It's also nice to see Pat and Fen in action, since I read the books in chronological order rather than publishing order. Of course
Spoilerthey saved the day
