Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

5.0

As usual, I’m blown away by Mariana Zapata’s book. Her characters, the story, the slow burn… I love it. Major Bonus Points for the tattoo shop and the biker gang vibe.

Be careful of spoilers !

So let’s recap a bit : Iris is forced to move in Austin (I think, I don’t remember the town, I’m sorry, I’m not American so it’s hard to know all the names. Anyway) with her step-brother and work at a tattoo parlor. Things don’t go very well when the owner/her boss seems to have something against her. He’s grumpy and mean, and a man-whore. but that’s not all. Iris and her brother Sonny have the same father. Father that seems to leave children and trouble pretty much everywhere he lives. So when he owns some gang money, obviously they start coming for his children. Problem is, Iris hasn’t seen her father for 8 years. Just before her mom died and when she was recovering from cancer. Yes, we can say her luck is non-existence. Anyway, she finds herself moving with her hot and biker boss and that’s when she realized that he might actually be the kindest and most protective person she knows.

In the rating of slow burn, this one was the last on all the MZ books I read. There’s always the male interest who is grumpy, aloof and mean to the main character, and the Girl who is kind, strong, hardworking and also waiting for her grump.

I really have nothing bad to say about this books. Except maybe that not all the MC need to be freaking orphans… I get it, it adds some heartbreaks and family drama, but come on. I think I prefer the dysfunctional parents to the dead parents but anyway…. In this story, it really helps Iris in being a bad ass bitch.
