This was by far the fastest of the pacing in any of the books so far. This book is the climax to the first saga in the Percy Jackson series. This book is felt as though it was mostly, if not all, about the final battle all of the prior books have been building up to. Did it pay off? Well I think that depends on who you asked. Since this is my thoughts/review, obviously, mine are what you are reading it for.
As an adult reading a novel meant for "young adults" as it is puts (although I'd debate this series feels it's more so for teenagers between fourteen through seventeen) it felt like there was is disconnect between what this series is going for and what someone like me probably was looking for from a reading experience at this point in my life. I by no means think this was bad, I think if you are within the targeted range for this book (which like I said in my opinion is fourteen through seventeen) you'd love this book and think it was worth the reading experience and even if you aren't maybe you'd find the entry thing charming.
Although I do not regret reading it, I will not be continuing with this series. The fart joke level humor, the playful kid telling a story first person writing style, and the countless call backs to greek mythology that the book assumes you know when it throws another one of it's wacky versions of said mythology at you are all aspects that were fine in Book 1 and each subsequent book it only started to be less and less of a novelty to me. And I feel it's definitely a me thing.
Verdict
The characters are good, the story was good, the pacing was good, and the ending was good. It was all good, not great, but probably would have been great had I been the right age. And if you are that right age, then I feel this will probably resonate with you, and it's probably why it's rated so high. I feel like I could barely call this a review, and more so, my thoughts on how I felt about this and it's all been ranging from neutral at best to annoyed at worst. Critically speaking, I probably should rate this higher, but I wouldn't. I'll stick to what my heart feels this should be
Nonetheless, overall,
I Liked It
