Ember Pierce just turned 18 and everything just got really complicated. For the last 5 years just as Ember falls asleep she teleports to somewhere, usually having something to do with what she was last thinking about, and after 10 minutes reappears in her room. Ember has been hiding her ability to teleport thinking that it could get her in trouble. Well trouble has come knocking.

A black mark has appeared on Ember's shoulder and to hide it, she gets a tattoo. Her next teleport lands her at a party with a gun and note telling her shoot Adrian. Then she encounters him again after she opens a safe. And finally government agents show up because apparently she is government property. Ember runs and gets caught by a cocky jerk, Caden, who it turns out is her new partner.

All Ember wants to do is go home. She doesn't want to be a government spy, or hurt people or have anything to do with Caden. But the danger is just beginning and she is going to have to decide between her partner and escape.

So overall I liked the book. I thought the plot was interesting. I liked the fact that the government agents, totally not out-smarted by a teenager. I liked the conflict that Caden had to deal with. I think that were plays of a triangle but they never really went any where so I didn't have to worry about it.

There were things that didn't quite sit right. First off apparently when Ember teleports sometimes she has clothes and other she doesn't and she always wakes up naked. Ember teleported with the reader several times before we found out about the naked thing, which wasn't explained very well and came as a bit of a surprise.

Second this book is billed as Young Adult and I think that it straddles the line between YA and New Adult. There is sex in this book and while it is not NA graphic, its way more then whats in YA and in my opinion it is too much to be classified as straight YA.

So I liked the book. I liked that it fits into the niche between YA and NA. With the plot and the ages of the characters, especially because most NA is just chock full of smexy times and there isn't much fantasy or sci-fi in genre. I look forward to the sequel.
