Trapper Road by Carrie Ryan, Rachel Caine

dark mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.5

Trigger warnings: kidnapping, death, murder, toxic relationship, false accusations of rape and sexual assault, mentions of serial murder, blood, school shooting, death of a friend, indoctrination.

I was really excited when this came out because the early books in this series are some of my favourite thrillers of all time. And then I put off reading it for a year because I didn't want it to be over (and also I was scared that it wouldn't live up to what I wanted it to be). And in some ways, it didn't live up to what I wanted it to be? But it was also a compelling mystery and I really enjoyed that so much of the story was told from Connor's perspective.

Probably I should have reread the whole series before I reread this one. And I didn't love the way it ended. But by and large, it worked?
