Darkest Before the Dawn by Michael Anderle
4.0
It's a fairly good story with good action. It was nice to see Michael own a bit of stupidity, too.
It's a bit comical to me that I've been saying since I started The Second Dark Ages that Anderle writes male MCs better than female. At the end of this book I listened to the author notes for the first time and realized that a female author, Ell Leigh Clarke, had a hand in writing this series. She's listed here as a narrator but she's a co-author. That might explain things a bit.
I'm enjoying this series, but it's superficial fun stuff at best, with a fair amount of fan-service.
Chris Abernathy's narration is excellent and I had no moments when the voices pulled me from immersion. He's a voice actor, and I'll be looking for more of his work.
