Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

3.0

violet and her twin brother luke live alone in their family's crumbling estate. violet's beloved grandmother is dead, although violet still wears her clothes, hears her voice in her head, and searches the house for her secrets. her artist parents are away in europe, so violet spends most of her time alone, reading and painting. then handsome sophisticated river comes to rent their guesthouse and seduce violet. but he is hiding a TERRIBLE SECRET which is later compounded by a TERRIBLE SURPRISE.

i think i was expecting a bit more of a paranormal romance (not sure why) and was therefore surprised at how terrifying things got towards the end of the book. i liked the gothic feel of the story quite a lot but i believe that i personally am too faint-hearted to continue the series.
