Death and the Conjuror by Tom Mead

2.0

This is a mystery that tries really hard to be a classic but fails. It starts off promising but by the end, the murderer makes no sense. The author even tells us  right before  the final chapter with the reveal that we have been given all the information to solve the murder.  Dear reader, I can tell you with much assurances that we are not given the information to solve the murder. I also didn't understand the role of the magician as an investigator. He was supposed to be the Sherlock Holmes of the story but he really didn't contribute to the solve, aside from some random magic tricks he would do and then not explain why he did them. I read this in one sitting during a long road trip and my anger at how this book was written was a major contributing factor to keeping me awake.
