Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism by bell hooks

5.0

Out of all of hook's work that I've read, this is my favorite.

Yes, this is over 40 years old and I realize it is pretty dated, but it's just so good. It's so radical and her passion comes through so well in this book. I felt like she didn't hold anything back - she had well thought out critiques ready for basically everyone and everything and she also wrote with a sense of hope and motivation.

I seriously believe that both this and "feminist thoery" should be required reading. She is so great at peeling apart the many layers of feminism and various social issues and exploring and explaining them in ways that are accessible.
