Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

4.0

I read this book in 2016, and I remember it being one of my favourites. The reread for me was full of nostalgia and the warm giddy feeling. I can confirm it is still one of my favourites.

Although it is no longer a 5 star read for me, this reread I gave Clockwork Angel 4.5 Stars. It is a beautiful YA novel, and is written as such. As it has been 7 years since I have read this book (and the rest of the series) I had the privilege of reading it again 'for the first time'. I loved the character development, the twists of the plot, the dialogue between the characters. As an (alleged) proper adult now who still reads quite a bit of YA, it was refreshing to read of a female protagonist and her counterparts who are 17 years old and ACTUALLY act like they are 17. Sure, they have their role to play and still partake in combat etc etc, but their behaviours are (somewhat) more realistic and relatable to someone of that age. The pacing was a little slow in the middle third of the book, but wasn't off-putting.

It has been years since I have read any of Cassandra Clare's work, and I am so glad to be diving into the Shadowhunter world once again.
