Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

4.0

If I’m honest, I’d give the book a 3.5 rating as I enjoyed the book overall. Audrey Rose is an enjoyable character to follow through the story as she tries to solve the mystery of who is Jack the Ripper. Thomas is also a fun Sherlock Holmes like character, and it’s fun to watch the banter between him and Audrey. And it’s a good Victorian mystery to curl up with by the fire.

However, where the book fell short for me was for two things. The first being that I guessed who “Jack” was only a few chapters into the book, and the second being that the author takes a lot of liberties with the events of 1880 to fit her story and deviates from the known facts of the Jack the Ripper Murders. Having studied the Jack the Ripper murders, there were times where the changes the author made to the events to fit her story became very distracting. Especially since she’s be very accurate about other things going on in Victorian England.

If you’re just looking for a good fictional story about Jack the Ripper, then I’d say give this a read. It’s a good read, the characters are fun, and it’s a good story to read on a cold autum night.
