The perfect family of perfect kids and perfect husband and wife was so unrealistic, cheesy, and forced that it actually made it hard to read.
There was clearly no research done on doctors, detectives, or even regional differences. There's a point where the detectives illegally search a house, then decide they need to bring their crime scene unit over. Instead of securing the area, they just ask the family to please leave it alone until they come back later. That was the point I almost put down the book for good.
