Caught my attention from end to end, with some tears at the end. I love Gaines writing style. It feels like a book written more than the 30 years ago it was written. However, while set in a period many years earlier, it feels informed by the development of American and Black American culture since. A great storyteller with a strong sense of mission and a unique perspective on life in the rural south.
