Perimenopause Power: Navigating Your Hormones on the Journey to Menopause by Maisie Hill
5.0
This book is amazing! It explains everything you need to know about perimenopause in accessible and often very witty language, with lots of helpful advice on how to deal with symptoms and what treatment options are available. It also covers issues such as endometriosis, diabetes and hypothyroidism and how they relate to your hormones, as well as advice relating to diet, exercise and supplements.
I thought the chapter on HRT was invaluable. Maisie explains the risks and benefits, and clears up the confusion and misinformation surrounding a massively flawed piece of research, which was published twenty years ago - this sort of information could be life changing for so many women! I feel so much more confident with this knowledge and, when the time comes, I’ll know how to approach my GP for help.
I’ve taken a long hard look at my lifestyle since reading this, and it’s really made me think about nutrition and exercise as a way of supporting my mental health, hormones and sleep hygiene (rather than a desire to lose weight) and I’m noticing a difference in my mood already ☺️
It’s the sort of book you can refer back to and dip in and out of, and just read the parts that apply to you at different times. Don’t wait until menopause is upon you to read this, as Maisie says, forewarned is forearmed, it just explains so much - it’s a real eye opener. Thank you Maisie!
