Wow, No Thank You. by Samantha Irby

3.0

I’m generally not a fan of half stars, but I’d say this one was more of a 3.5 star read for me. I think two things led to my lesser enjoyment of this book. 1. I think I’m not quite old enough to be the intended audience of these particular essays. While some of them were quite funny for me, most of them were about topics that aren’t quite applicable to my current day life. I still enjoyed the writing but I didn’t exactly... care. 2. I think I should have read her previous essay collections before picking up this one. There seemed to be a lot of life context that I would have gained from reading the other collections as well as direct references to them that I just didn’t get.

On the plus side, I definitely liked Samantha Irby’s writing enough to want to read the others to catch up. I don’t know when I’ll get to them, but I’ll definitely put them on my list. I thought it was really funny and and entertaining. I’d definitely recommend it to other readers, and I’m glad that I know more about the book itself and Samantha Irby, who I had heard a lot about from jesssiemae on Instagram.
