Apples to Oregon: Being the (Slightly) True Narrative of How a Brave Pioneer Father Brought Apples, Peaches, Pears, Plums, Grapes, and C by Deborah Hopkinson

4.0

Genre: Historical Fiction
Grades: 3-5

I think this story is a fun story about a family moving west. I really appreciated the map and page of facts that were included along with the story. The family's focus on the fruit trees can be amusing and it is a good connection to thinking about how the families provided for themselves once they arrived in the West. I learned about apples and Oregon after reading the back page and I loved that a simple and funny story can also lead to a lot of learning.
