Gosh. Where to start.
I lived in Manchester in the early 80’s. Went to the Hacienda and other places mentioned in the book. I have also been touched by some of the issues in the second half of the book.
There are some magic turns of phrase, but somehow it feels a bit like a pitch for a film vehicle for the likes of McGregor and McFadden, with maybe a cameo role for Pat Nevin. Some of the dialogue in the first half feels slightly off, but it’s a really good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A mashup of High Fidelity and Trainspotting with a flourish of Iain Banks.
