i started reading it after watching the tv show, and it was absolutely worth the read! the show keeps coming back to the storyline of the book, but there are lots if differences, so it wasn't boring even though i roughly know what was going to happen. i enjoyed the writing very much. usually, i don't read horror, and i always thought it wasn't a genre i would enjoy, but this book has taught me better. i loved the suspense and how gripping some of the scenes were. i felt mostly detached from the characters, but very fascinated. the entire world building, how vampires are made, how they live, what they feel, how they can die etc. is very well thought through and interesting. i will definitely go on to read the next book of this series.
