A harrowing yet inspiring story of a mother and son's nearĀ  impossible escape from Mexico and the violence she encountered. Thought provoking and grounding: to think that journeys such as this are undertaken in our world today. Cummins writes with great fluency. Her description are stark and harsh, just as it would be for the characters in those moments, allowing you to connect and feel in real time. <Spoiler> After following Lydia through her journey, I'd have really liked a little more to read about her new life in the USA. Other than that, a brilliant read <Spoiler>
