Waiting for Wednesday by Nicci French

4.0

As we continue with the "days of the week" series, this one starts with a bloody murder of what seems like the perfect "Leave it to Beaver" mother of three. This story begins with Frieda on the outside of the investigation as her services with the police were terminated at the end of the last novel.

Frieda's involvement in the case comes from a family connection (her niece is friends with the son of the dead woman). Working with Karlsson, family secrets are revealed, another murder takes place, and Frieda's ability to see beyond the obvious the murder is solved.

Once again Bradshaw (Frieda's nemesis) is determined to destroy Frieda's reputation and conjures up a morally repugnant plan to make her and her friends look incompetent. And then there's an offhand comment from a "client" that she cannot shake and leads her down an investigation of a serial killer.

Frieda is a complex character that at times I really admire and then at other times I really don't like. Sandy, her boyfriend (?), seems like a throwaway character and not sure what role he'll play in her life.

Looking forward to Thursday!
