Midnight Awakening by Lara Adrian

4.0

A huge improvement on the first two books in the series, which very much followed the pattern of broody alpha-vampire takes a liking to oblivious, yet actually very special human female, followed by lots of umming and ahhing, a dash of life-in-peril and then they opt to live happily ever after (not always a bad thing! But still...). Instead, this book sees an emotionally inept immortal who scares everyone find an unlikely connection with an emotionally battered, borderline suicidal human woman, who is actually very special, but mercifully not oblivious. I'm a big fan of flawed characters with well written arcs and I found myself surprised by how much I cared about Tegan and Elise. It will be very interesting to see what happens in book 4, given the male lead - I'm hoping the continued improvement will be apparent.
