Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

I started reading Braiding Sweetgrass last June and I've finally finished it. Despite how long it took me to read this book I really loved it. It took me longer to read simply because I struggle to get through books comprised of essays rather than plot. It kind of feels right to me to have finished it now though. I've now had 2 full semesters being a horticulture major and many of the things l've learned came up while reading this book. She'd mention alluvial soil and l'd remember learning that a couple months ago in my soil science class.
Or l'd be thinking about things l've learned in my plant physiology class and how it pertains to the plants mentioned throughout this book. One of my classes actually had us read a chapter from this to take into consideration how we view the world from a western science perspective and how understanding plants is so much more than that.
Definitely one of the best books l've read and I will be rereading chapters from time to time since l'm pretty bad at retaining the things that I read.
