Maus II: A Survivor's Tale: And Here My Troubles Began by Art Spiegelman
5.0
Vladek Spiegelman and wife Anja both were transported to Auschwitz after being caught by the Nazi's in 1944. They both survived, but were traumatized for the rest of their lives. Their son, the cartoonist Art Spiegelman, never really understood the pains and trauma's of his father. Now that his father is very ill, he decides to write down his father's story before it's too late.
Maus II: and here my troubles began is the sequel to Maus I: a survivor's tale. It's a beautiful but also very moving book, almost shocking. The illustrations in the book are sometimes really shocking and painful and that's what makes this book so good. It's also Art's own story. He draw himself with a mouse-mask on and that really moved me, because, for me, that shows that his father's pain is also his pain.
Although I was really impressed by Maus, I liked this book even better. It's actually the first Graphic Novel that made me cry and I think the book deserves it to make people cry. A must-read.
