Relatively Normal Secrets by C.W. Allen

5.0

I started this book in September but realized I wanted to take my time so I set it aside and restarted it last week. Allen’s world-building is incredibly imaginative. I would describe her writing as quirky with a very “Series of Unfortunate Events” sort of vibe. The story is intelligently adventurous, bringing the reader through a careful thought process, logically and organized without sacrificing the whimsy of this new universe. There were a few lines here and there that were so expertly crafted and delicious that I re-read them more than once to take them in. I found myself surprised no less than three times by turns of events and audibly gasped after one of them, startling my family sitting next to me. There must be a sequel in the works and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans this peculiar family inserts themselves into next.
