A brilliant mix of dystopian YA and fantasy (think divergent in a game of thrones world) with war, training, magic, dragons, death and sex.
A mostly loveable main character (which in YA/dystopian is hard to pull off sometimes - especially when they’re a head-strong proud character).
In fact, all the characters are well defined and complex, and the plot(s) are cleverly woven, giving away the perfect amount of information at the perfect time.
I definitely wasn’t expecting so much smut in this (there’s 2 fully explicit and long sex scenes in there) but it’s done well and doesn’t feel cheap or unnecessary.
Occasionally, there are some lines that fall a bit short and feel cringey but the majority of interactions are witty, sexy and well-written.
I really couldn’t put this book down.
Would 100% recommend this and the only disappointing thing about it, is that it ended on a brilliant cliff-hanger, and, as I read it the year it came out, I doubt I’ll be reading the sequel any time soon.
Graphic: Death, Sexual content, Violence, Murder, and Injury/Injury detail
