Greta's Story: The Schoolgirl Who Went on Strike to Save the Planet by Valentina Camerini

5.0

This is a great book which could be used in upper KS2. The book begins by outlining Greta’s life and the journey she took to becoming a climate activist. This should children that there are many people who are very concerned and want to help save the planet. As well as Greta’s story helping to show the importance of looking after the planet, it also raises awareness of Asperger’s syndrome in a positive way. The end of the book contains a glossary, ways in which you can help the environment yourself and key dates in history related to environmental issues and discussions. These would be very useful to look at alongside work on the environment in science or separately as a way of making children aware of and interesting them in the climate crisis and how they can help. The book also shows a different figure as a powerful and influential person, how teenagers are not often seen. I would definitely have this in an upper KS2 classroom, both for children to look at themselves, particularly the second sections as well as to read as a class.
