Go as a River by Shelley Read
emotional
hopeful
sad
4.5
This is just the type of book I love to read. I felt like I was whisked away to the South and could almost taste the peaches. The writing style was beautiful and it was certainly impressive for a debut. Go as a River reminded me of Betty by Tiffany McDaniel with slightly less trauma.
We follow Torie or Victoria over the course of many years as she falls in love with Wilson Moon. Wil is an outcast, their love is forbidden and Torie quickly learns to deal with the consequences. She is such a likeable character who has to make unfathomable decisions but you're willing her on the whole way through. I really enjoyed reading about the friendships she ends up forging and how she finds her way despite her grief and despair.
4.5 stars from me - would recommend.
