The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a perfect amalgamation of style and substance. This book is a rare instance where the prose and plot are equally delicious. I don’t remember the last time I bawled like baby while reading a book. Somehow Taylor managed to rip my soul off my body and then sew it back on, this time just a bit more strong, vulnerable, understanding, and empathetic than it earlier was. Evelyn Hugo is, in my opinion, a haphazard beauty, captivating, and slightly terrifying. She is scrappy, ferocious, and ruthlessly ambitious. She is a realist but also a hopeless romantic. She made the decisions she made, the good, the bad, the ugly and never once regretted them because she was fully aware that if she hadn’t chosen the things she did she would never have achieved so wondrously and brutally all that she did. That to me is something beyond powerful. I think this book changed me. I know this book will stay with me for a long long time.
