Here Is the Beehive by Sarah Crossan

2.5 stars

I'm a big fan of Sarah Crossan and her works - her YA verse novels are some of the most stunning things I have ever read. However in this book, her adult debut (I believe), I can't say the same.

One thing this book does well is show how destructive lies and hidden truths (in this case, an affair) can be on someone. Ana's anguish throughout the story is evident, especially in comparison to the flashbacks to when she first met Connor.

However, as the novel went on, I lost all sympathy for Ana and by the time I got to the last 25% of the book, I just wanted it to be over. Could this be because I have no knowledge of how this situation could feel? Possibly. Could this be that this just wasn't the story for me? Maybe.

But what I will say is that the craft of Crossan's writing in this book is beyond stunning. To show such an emotional rollercoaster through verse shows what an amazing writer she is.

Sadly, just not the book for me.
