The Crystal Skull by Manda Scott

Did not finish book.

2.0

If you're a fan of Dan Brown, you might find this book interesting at face value. It can be classified into Historical Fiction with elements of Fantasy in the narrative.

I was immensely drawn to it from the summary at the back of the book, but as I started, the book gradually lost all its pace and felt like a drag post the first 4-5 chapters. The excessive descriptions of either the characters' thoughts or surroundings made me lose track of the storyline and my attention kept waxing and waning. I had a vague doubt if these excessive descriptions were added to the narrative as an after-thought by the author, maybe to make it feel like an immersive story (which didn't work for me). The book has the potential to be sharp and concise if the unnecessary fluff is removed.

I had to abandon the book post finishing 60% of it because it felt like I was forcing myself to finish it - and that is absolutely wrong in my opinion. Reading should be enjoyable and not a punishment.

If you've loved Dan Brown's top sellers, you'll definitely find this book very slow.
