The Double Cheese Burger Murder by Rosie A. Point

Christie Watson is back, and once again has inserted herself into a mystery/murder even though she knows the potential repercussions of becoming involved. Readers are reintroduced to some of the town folk who reside in Sleepy Creek, as well as meet a few new ones.
Another person has been murdered, and Christie has (seemingly) no choice but to get involved, especially since her best friend Griz is related to one of the suspects. Of course, the Burger Bar is a central spot in the book, a jumping-off point where Christie can gather information venturing out to interview other suspects. The background ambience of small-town living works well for author Rosie A. Point, and she works the everyone-know-everyone-in-town aspect which makes it easy for Christie to add clues to her growing pile.
The ending was a bit off-kilter for me. The big reveal came, and though Ms. Point explained everything, there was nothing throughout the book to give an indication that perhaps this person was the murderer. I enjoy trying to figure out the case before the police or detective, and not being given any clues to figure out what happened was disappointing (and truth be told, most times I don’t figure it out, and I gain greater respect for an author who can leave a clue lying in plain sight yet mask its significance until the very end).
Regardless, this story is buttoned a little tighter than the author’s first offering, and Christie is an enjoyable narrator. She is sassy without being snarky, someone that anybody wouldn’t mind sharing her company over a cup of coffee. Or a burger. Four stars.
