This was a great read up until the ending. I can’t get on board with Picoult’s decision to end the story the way she did. 
And the weird back story for the side characters felt unnecessary. I wish she had focused more on the family, especially the siblings. 
The writing was beautiful, though. Some chapters really made me tear up.
