Dash: Rushing the Play by Connor Crais, Kayley Loring

5.0

I absolutely loved this story! The physical juxtaposition between a huge football player and a petite ballerina, as well as how different their personalities seemed, leads the reader to think this is an opposite-attracts story. But as you dive deeper into the characters, you learn how much they actually have in common.

There is a little time hopping that happens, and since I read Decker first, I really enjoyed some of the scene overlapping from book 1. Dash can be read on its own, however, and those overlapping scenes will not be disruptive.

Dash experiences a huge character arc from beginning to end without sacrificing his entire personality. I appreciated that! I also LOVED that this story gives the characters permission to follow their dreams, even when their dreams change. I feel like too many stories focus all the attention on characters staying true to what they want from the beginning, but Dash felt more relatable to me because the characters realize that dreams can change and that's ok and sometimes the right decision. (Don't want to give away too much here.) There is a surprise baby in this story and Charlotte's pregnancy experience was INCREDIBLY relatable to me (having had 2 kids myself).

I love when a fictional story still pulls in highly relatable content! It always help me connect better.

I listened to the audiobook and really loved the performances by Connor Crais and Emma Wilder. Duet style narration is always my favorite because it makes it feel so much more real. They had me laughing, tearing up, and audibly saying "awwwwww" with little hearts in my eyes. Highly recommend!
