it's a classic. I am a Philistine and I don't always understand them. This seemed depressing and predictable. Simone de Beauuvoir is supposed to be a feminist.

The first story sounded like it would sound better in french. It was interesting to identify clumsy bit which were probably not clumsy at all in the original language. I sort of liked the second one in a "Lady Susan" sort of a way. The third one was so long and you knew where it was going and it was not an enjoyable trip so I am not sure what the point of it was. Maurice was incredibly selfish.

I don't even get all that judgy about people sleeping with whoever but it was more the way he was dishonest and entitled that pissed me off about him. It would have been noce if the protagonist got some sort of revenge or had literally anything in her life other than tedious, tawdry little husband. At first I had hope she would have a affair with the homeless girl but she kind of faded out of the plot which makes you wonder why she was there at all.
