The Green Umbrella by Jackie AzĂșa Kramer, Maral Sassouni

5.0

This picture book tells the story of an umbrella that actually seems to have many purposes other than just protecting an elephant on a rainy day. A cat, bear, rabbit and hedgehog all approach the elephant to ask for their tent, flying machine, boat and other random objects that these animals seem to think the elephant has taken from them. In the end the animals realize that they can have a wonderful time sharing the umbrella and thinking of more creative uses for it. The font is black and is fairly small on light coloured backgrounds. The illustrations are beautiful and also have a really neat style. I could see using this as inspiration in my classroom for an art lesson. I really love the blending of colours, especially in the sky or background and the texture on the ocean waves is really neat as well. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 4-8 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
