Autumn Bones by Jacqueline Carey

Although I found this novel entertaining I suppose I had the same problem some of my fellow readers had. Jacqueline Carey is one of my favorite authors and I therefore expect a lot from her. In this novel the only sign of her beautiful form of writing is big words that the character is pleased with herself for knowing.

*slight spoiler* One big hiccup I had began with one of the first scenes when multiple people had been compelled to have sex with one another. I didn't have a problem with the scene, just Daisy's response. When she basically blamed the victims because "true desire can't be compelled"...I have a problem with this. These people consented to nothing and are basically guilty for being attracted to someone. Yep, as long as you could've imagined yourself having sex with that person prior to the event, it's on you. Left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm surprised with Ms Carey.... This logic was repeated through the book multiple times.

Like I said, the novel was entertaining and had a lot going on. Maybe too much at times. It's a pretty typical urban fantasy really. Someone else said formulaic and I think that hits the nail on the head. I guess I expected something a tad more imagination and unique.
