I Am the Ghost in Your House by Maria Romasco-Moore

3.0

the protagonist is most-of-the-way invisible, and she and her mother live this very liminal life, until one day her mother disappears altogether and she has to learn how to navigate the world on her own. I enjoyed this as a story but the speculative elements didn't altogether work for me -- it neither felt fully explained/integrated into the story, nor like the author had intended it to be more magic realismy, but rather was halfway in between those two. so just overall didn't quite click for me.
