The first thing I thought about "poor" Alexandria was that she was ungracious and had a little mean streak.
That didn't change at all, even when she did mellow out a little by the end. The Prince, by far, had the most character development and personally, I felt a little more could have gone towards snotty Alexandria.
The pace was a little plodding, but the re-appearance of the Prince made the story more interesting.
