To Hunt a Demon King by Madeleine Eliot

2.0

2.5 stars.
Not so much of a retelling, to be honest, except the man calling the woman "Red".
It was a fun, quick and light read, and points to the author to be able to create enough intrigue in the lore. Everything was predictable and convenient, even the so-called big reveal. There is enough meat in this book to lure in light fantasy romance lovers, but there's nothing interesting about the leads, except that they both lie through their teeth.
The demon vs witch lore is a trope that I really enjoy and the book has used it well. There are other tropes and ideas borrowed by the author blatantly, and some random anachronistic phrases, all of which a good editor can weed out.
I will say though, I was not bored while I was reading this book. I am also surprised that I do want to know what happens next, even though I can predict the next two books just as easily.
