The Ghosts of Walter Crockett by W Edward Crockett

4.0

The author's father was an alcoholic and 'the town drunk' of Portland Maine for 17 years, and had Last Rites performed 5 times before he eventually recovered from that type of life. In the meantime, the author's mother was burdened with 8 children and no support from her bum if a husband.
Walter's son has written a poignant memoir of how growing up in the poor Munjoy Hill area of Portland in the 60s and 70s without a father affected his relationships and his own experiences with alcohol. Strangely riveting!
