Rock Jaw: Master of the Eastern Border by Jeff Smith

4.0

I'm still fond of the characters and their path through the story, but right now it's the path that bothers me. "Big Mythology" + "Classic fantasy" meets Mickey and his friends from Disney was a cute idea at first, but I'm trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and there doesn't seem to be much awaiting. After 5 volumes that is a problem, we're beyond introductions.

The Rat Creatures are terribly incompetent too, to the point of annoyance (a bunch of animal kiddies jumping around can bother them enough to free their prisoners?). I've yet to see ONE reason to take them seriously as a threat.

But it's an okay volume that I enjoyed well enough. Now back to Phoney who irritates me to no end...maybe volume 6 is the one to redeem him? Or will it all just come together at the end? Guess we'll find soon enough...
