Akira, Vol. 1 by Katsuhiro Otomo
4.0
For me, Akira vol 1 was, above all, a fun experience. It expresses the typical cyberpunk themes in a relatable humorous tone. There is enough intra-character fun and light heartedness here to balance out the (sometimes) homicidally dark undertones of the plot.
My only qualms were that the black and white medium lacked the depth of a theoretical colorized counterpart. Neotokyo also lacked mystique. It kind of just felt like a generic city.
Overall, a very solid read. Can’t wait for part 2.
