Scoring Beauty by Alley Ciz

I have been very excited about Ryan’s story for a while and was so happy to get it because he deserved the world. He is truly the epitome of good guy aka Captain America. He loves his crazy family and friends, works hard, and just wants someone to love and love him back. When one too many bad dates happen, he decides he needs to lay off the dating scene because he doesn’t trust his judgment after being hurt before. He isn’t a player like most superstar athletes, Ryan just wants what those around him are finding and that’s the one true love of his life. He could not be any more perfect!! The day he swears off dating is the day he runs into Amara and the instant attraction blazes to life, yet they are both hesitant for many reasons. As a single mother, especially at a young age when she got pregnant, Amara is extremely hesitant when it comes to letting others close, especially hockey players. Please don’t hate me I will be in the minority here but…………. I understood how hard her life has been and how much of a struggle she went through, yet when came to Ryan maybe I felt overly protective of him because I wasn’t so sure about her at first. She would talk about being judged constantly but she was the first to judge Ryan and assume he was nothing but a player. By the time she starts to realize that Ryan is nothing like she thought, I was still struggling with connecting with her and even though I understood her hesitancy, the things she is going through with her family, it still got to me. Not going to lie it took me a while to like her, but when she would show her vulnerability, learned to accept help, I liked her a lot more. I did like the relationship she had with her son yet at times I felt they were speaking a different language with their banter, but I loved how much Maverick loved his mom, it was precious. With the “help” of the Covenettes they set out to get Ryan together with Amara. The Covenettes and their constant texting/meddling has elevated since book one and although I do love them, at times I felt it was a little too much. The constant hassling of the Covenettes made me feel bad for Ryan because he just wanted to figure out his love life in his own way and I get they are all family/friends, but it would irk me like no other to be constantly badgered they way they did him. I also felt weird about how much Maddy was involved with trying to help Ryan find his person, I felt maybe she was trying to still make amends for what happened between them and lessen her guilt because she was way over the top into his love life. However, I did absolutely enjoy the next gen, their friendship, and even their banter because it fit their ages. If you love a cute slow burn sports romance with a single mom and super amazing Cap that you can’t but help fall in love with this is a great one for you. I enjoyed it and think readers should give a try.
