Choosing to Run: A Memoir by Des Linden

5.0

This is a phenomenal sports memoir — one of my absolute favorites. Definitely intended for runner readers (otherwise some anecdotes might go over your head), this book gives a rare glimpse into the honest, inner thoughts twirling around in an elite marathoner’s head every step of a race. Specifically the iconic Boston Marathon, what my dad calls “the Super Bowl of running.” I’m so thankful for Des’s reminder to “put the intrinsic pleasure of running front and center” and to remember “the right why” — the soul’s reasoning for pursuing this sport, regardless of performance outcomes. With the Boston Marathon just two weeks out, this was especially inspiring to read right now!
