Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
5.0
I've finally read Gone Girl and....wow. I have never read a book quite like this one!
So the synopsis follows: boy(Nick) meets girl (Amy) and they have the happiest relationship. They get married, have cute traditions for their wedding anniversaries but during their married life things start to go downhill and we find that on their fifth anniversary Amy disappears and Nick tries to find out where she is and why she disappeared We see both of the perspectives of Nick and Amy and eventually find out what happened.
When I started reading the book, I thought the story was a bit slow, but now that I've finished it, it seems like the slow beginning was purposely done - it was all to build up the climax which was very intense and crazy. We see that both Nick and Amy have secrets that Flynn masks very well until all is revealed. The plot was amazing, like I said, I've never read a book like Gone Girl because the twists and turns were so weirdly unique that it really messed me up.
I can't really discuss this book in depth without including the spoilers so if you haven't read the book GO READ IT and come back for the spoiler section :)
Next, Nick. I didn't really like him from the beginning but I did feel sorry for him because everyone thought he killed Amy when I knew she was just in hiding. But what made me hate him was the fact that he had an affair. First, the affair was so stereotypical and second I hate when characters in books cheat, no matter what situation they are in but I'm glad that it wasn't condoned.
The ending was what messed me up the most. Amy with her cunning tactics forced Nick to stay with her because she threatened the life of their future child, it literally made me re evaluate everything I read and realised how crazy the whole book was.

Spoiler
First Amy. It seemed like she had a nice life but her relationship with Nick got me a bit suspicious. I caught onto the fact that she was in hiding quite early on in the book because of the mention of Nick's anger issues. But although I knew she was hiding I did not know that the reason she was hiding and of course the reason was SO MESSED UP! What I will applaud Amy for it her smartness and slyness; it was what made me want to finish the book! She was so careful with what she did and her tactics were weirdly amazing. Despite this, I still think that Amy was just doing the most. I understand that she was a psychopath but what she did was so extra (and for some reason, I oddly love it).Next, Nick. I didn't really like him from the beginning but I did feel sorry for him because everyone thought he killed Amy when I knew she was just in hiding.
